The winners of the 2012 Drakenstein Minstrel’s of the Year competition, the Superstars, is to perform at a picnic concert at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument’s Tuinteater in Paarl, on Saturday 18 February.

The two hour show begins at 19:30. The programme includes performances by the Superstars, their brass band and their new “langarm” band as well as solo performances.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or they can order a basket (R170 for two persons) from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800).

Tickets, at R30 for adults and R10 for children (under 6 enter free), are available at the gate or can be pre-bought from the Taalmuseum (Mon to Fri 08:30 to 16:30) or the Taalmonument (Mon to Sun 08:30 to 19:30). The Tuinteater summer concert series is held in aid of the Taalmonument’s Reading Project for the Youth. Safe parking is available and access is controlled. No dogs or fires are allowed. The concert will be cancelled if the weather is bad.

Upcoming shows at the Taalmonument Tuinteater includes a Valentine’s picnic concert with Craig Scott on 14 February, a comedy night with Melt Sieberhagen and Gemengde Vrugte on 16 March, Elle Amor with “Soos goeie rooiwyn” – from rock to classics, ballads and pop on 24 March, a Picnic on Fire in support of Earth Hour on 31 March and a hip hop open mic concert in collaboration with Ill Major Movement on 14 April.
